MWF 10:10-11:00 a.m. OMANEX A202 Introduction to and survey of ancient Greek and Roman comic playwrights (Aristophanes, Euripides, Menander, Plautus, Terence) and the reception/influence of the poetics of classical comedy (Machiavelli, Shakespeare, Jonson, Moliere, Wycherley, Congreve, Gay, Beaumarchais, Goldsmith, Sheridan, Wilde, Shaw, Jarry, Ionesco, J. Renoir, Joe Orton). Regular secondary readings include classics of dramatic and comic theory.
