Philadelphia. Shoe merchant (9, 12) Weekly Kansas Chief for Aug 7 1879 reports death of Edwin [sic] Franklin, Sr., father of our townsman, Thomas Franklin, on August 1st, Age 79. He was a native of Philadelphia, Pa. Had lived for several years with his son. Burial in the Masonic Cemetery. He was an Episcopalian. Under June 9 1876 the Weekly Kansas Cheif reports: "At Doniphan, Mr. Franklin Sr., father of our townsmman, Thomas Franklin, fell, going home from church, and broke his leg, about half-way between the knee and hip. Mr Franklin is about 70, and it will perhaps be somet ime before he will be able to use his leg much. It was the leg on whichi he used the patent leg from the knee down.
